The 15 Best Cave & Cenote Tours in the Dominican Republic

74 tours  ·  from $19

The east coast is hollow limestone, and the water inside it is cold and improbably blue. These 15 sort the show caves from the rope-ladder ones, with prices, what to wear and which are reached by buggy rather than by road.

“Fun exploration. The ‘farm’ was the only disappointment, it’s a little shop not like visiting a farm or plantation for the authentic feel. The cave you literally jump in the. Have to get out, no time in the water to explore. It was also very crowded and someone fell on top of one of our group members hurting his neck. The staff was fantastic, communication was good, buggies were fun and we loved the beach stop.”

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 2,206 reviews · from $45Top rated

Ride your own ATV in a guided caravan through Punta Cana’s countryside, stopping for Dominican coffee and chocolate, a 25-foot water cave, and Macao Beach. Guides such as Mr. Panda and Alexis are known for friendly, safety-focused help. Expect rough roads, a large group, and independent vendors.

“I’ve been in 8 atv tours this would rank about 5th. Everything seemed rushed. The farm is not really a farm it’s a place to sale you stuff. As is the water cave. It’s extremely crowded and again they rush you. The beach is nice but overpriced food and drink items. Also when you read the reviews beware they all say their name is Mr. Panda and at the end they try and write the reviews for you or pressure you to give them a 5.”

“Pick up was easy, communication as well. Crew was good, gave us some tips and tricks. Driving a buggy was fun, lots of mud so prepare yourself with glasses and mouth cover. Traditional Dominican house does not exist, or does if its sales outside covered space, they show you beans of coffee, cocoa and leafs of tobacco. You can see how they roll cigars. No show of how to grind beans, just tools. Took 4 minutes max and then they are presenting products, to taste and see and to buy. Point is to take you there and spend money. This is really disappointing since we been in Egypt, Tunisia, Marakesh…”

I didn’t know that after the first excursion and the second, they bring you back to your hotel for a 2 hour break to have lunch and then be picked up again. That is what I was told but we got back 20 minutes before we had to leave again and was rushing to get cleaned up and eat before going back out another 3/4 hours. This is not one company either, one is for the ATB portion and another for the Catamaran. Other than that mishap the rest was very good. We rent ATV’s in every country and this one…”
